Over the past couple of weeks, the top spellers from the Prairie View school districts three schools have competed for the opportunity to represent their school at the Linn County Spelling Bee. The countywide contest will be a 9:30 a.m., on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Prairie View Performing Arts Center.

Parker students, from left, Dean Chapman, Jace Goodwin and Taylee Dunlop were the top three spellers at the their school.
Parker Elementary School conducted its spell-off on Jan. 24. The top three spellers were champion Taylee Dunlop, runner-up champion Jace Goodwin, and third-place finisher was Dean Chapman. Taylee and Jace are fifth-graders, and Dean is a fourth-grader.

Other participants in the contest included fifth-graders Aspen Stanchfield, Justin Dumcum, Jeff Dumcum, Jaxn Hagemaster; fourth-graders Leeland Emery, Rachel Konda, Riley Jamison, Paisley Mahoney, Cade Sewell; and third-graders Benjamin McCrea, Ryatt Pope, Sutton Schwarz, Weylyn Post, Shelbie Lueker, and Isaac Britz.

The Prairie View Middle School contest was held on Jan. 28 at the school’s library. Sixth-grader Somer Spurgeon took top honors. Eighth-grader Blake Stevenson was runner-up, sixth-grader Kora Stainbrook placed third, and seventh-grader SkyLynn Sands placed fourth and will be an alternate.

Other PVMS students participating included eighth-graders Marley Johnson, J.W. Philpott, Cooper Watson, seventh-graders A.J. Eastwood, William Lueker, Brendin Michelle; and sixth-graders Savannah Martinez, and Ryder Rhynerson.
