Schools remain closed on Wednesday as area residents begin to dig out

Kansas Department of Transportation's KanDrive Map shows that most of the highways in the area are partially or completely snow covered as of 8 p.m. on Tuesday.


All three school disricts and the STARS (Southeastern Technical Academy for Rural Students) remained closed for a second day after a snow storm combined with brutally cold temperatures continued to affect travel around the area.


The storm arrived in the early hours of Tuesday, not beginning to taper off until Tuesday evening. Flurries ares expected throughout Wednesday morning but little additional accumulation is expected. The winter snow warning issued by the the National Weather Service expires early Tuesday morning, but the cold weather advisory will remain in effect through Thursday morning.


The high on Wednesday is expected to by 11 degrees with a low early Thursday morning of minus 12 F. The high on Thursday is expected to be about 14 degrees.
