The Prairie View theater and music departments performed the musical “The Lightning Thief” in a single night performance onThursday, Nov. 14. Also known as The Percy Jackson Musical, the production followed the exploits of a 12-year-old boy who discovers he is a demigod and goes on a quest to find the missing lightning bolt belonging to the Greek god Zeus and prevent a war between the other Greek gods.

The musical is based on a novel by author Rick Riordan and adapted with music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki.

Cash Lintner playd the title role of Percy Jackson in this PVHS production. Aurora Burton played Percy’s best friend Grover, and Cecilia Brockway was Annabeth, both of whom team up with Percy to help him in his quest to find the missing bolt.

In the first act of this fantasy musical, Percy, who is the son of Poseidon (god of the sea) and Sally (his human mother) finds himself in Camp Half-Blood along with other demigods who are half-human, half-god. A rumor surfaces that Percy has stolen Zeus’ thunderbolt, and he decides to go on a quest to find the real thief. It is at the camp where he meets Annabeth, who along with Grover will join Percy.

In the second act, the trio arrive in the underworld only to discover that the lightning bolt has somehow ended up in Percy’s backpack. The heroes finally discover who stole the bolt, and the musical heads toward its conclusion: Has Percy averted a war of the gods or not.

PVHS drama teacher Austin Pixton was the stage director with Jeffery Russell as technical director and James Beltz as music director. Choreography was by Raquel Beltz along with her assistant Jacqueline Beltz.

The crew was led by stage manager Rylan McCrea and her assistant Ninetta Johnson. Crew members include Colten McCrea, Bailey Hughes, Aaden Bevan, Erik Grove, Alan Buren, Aubree Ferguson, Faith Campbell, Melanie Merriman, and Sophie Miller.
