PLEASANTON – A 52-year-old Parker man died as a result of injuries sustained when a horse he owned went out of control and reportedly kicked and stomped him at the Pleasanton Saddle Club on Friday, Aug. 30.

According to Linn County Sheriff Kevin Friend, Mark A. Davis received injuries to his head and chest and died soon after the incident.

Linn County dispatch received a call just after 11 p.m. reporting the incident. Friend said injuries to Davis would remain under investigation pending the result of an autopsy.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Davis and the members of the Pleasanton Saddle Club as they deal with this tragic loss,” said Friend in his statement.

Davis was an experienced horseman as well as a member and announcer for the Pleasanton Saddle Club.

Mike Douglass, owner of Lakeside Stables in Miami County, said he is  not a member of the club but has students who are. He posted an announcement that a memorial show will be held tentatively on Nov. 2 at 1p.m. Pleasanton Saddle Club.

“Money raised will go to continue Mark’s legacy in the club,” Douglass posted on the stables Facebook page. “Mark was a huge supporter and advocate for kids in the club. The club hopes to develop more youth events and opportunities in Mark’s name.”

The Pleasanton Saddle Club also released a statement on Facebook:

“Mark was an integral part of our club, known for his beautiful voice on the microphone, enthusiastic participation in events and dedication to training and mentoring our saddle club kids. Mark will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.

“We understand that this news may be distressing, and we want to ensure that support is available to all members. Counseling resources are being arranged, and we encourage anyone in need of support to reach out to Pleasanton Saddle Club Vice President Stacy Reagan.

“In honor of Mark’s memory, a benefit showdeo will be held at a later date soon to be announced. We invite all who knew Mark to join us in praying for comfort and peace for his family and friends.

“Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this painful loss together. We will continue to provide updates and support as necessary.”
