Madelyn Jene Ruse

Ozawkie, Kansas


Madelyn Jene Ruse age 80 of Ozawkie, Kansas, formerly of Osawatomie, Kansas, passed away Sunday October 13, 2024, at Midland Care Hospice House.


Madelyn was born February 10, 1944, in Osawatomie, Kansas. She was born to Sylvester A. and Madelyn Pauline (Jones) Wolf. Madelyn graduated in 1962 from Iola High School.


After graduating in May, Madelyn and Charles “Chuck” Ruse were married on June 10, 1962, in Iola, Kansas. To this union came three daughters; Teresa, Shirley and Misty. The family made their home in various places such as Neosho Falls, Chanute, Texas, Humboldt, Osawatomie, La Cygne and Oskaloosa.


Madelyn worked various places over the years. She worked as a clerk at Baird’s Grocery and Johnson General in Humboldt. Then when they moved to Osawatomie, Madelyn worked at Wal-Mart in Paola and the Osawatomie State Hospital. When they retired and moved to Linn County, she cleaned the cabins and worked at the marina at LaCygne Lake.


In Madelyn’s spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family and loving on her grandchildren. She and Chuck loved to go camping. They attended Cowboy Church in LaCygne and she was a member of the Eastern Star.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Chuck, daughter Misty Lea Ruse, her parents, her son-in-law Arthur Obrock, and two brothers Sylvester Wolf and Benjamin Wolf.

Survivors include daughters Teresa (Steven) Garst and Shirley Obrock; grandchildren, Alexander (Kyley) Garst, Christian (Ariel) Garst, Cameron Garst, Madison Garst, Andrew (Allison) Obrock, Zachary (Shanay) Obrock and Douglas (Sara) Obrock; nine great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Brother Phillip Andruss and sister Claudia Hegwald. Madelyn is also survived by her nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2024 at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main Street, Osawatomie, KS 66064. Graveside Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 18 at Osawatomie Cemetery, 327th and Osawatomie Road.
