Eleven members of the Jayhawk-Linn FFA competed in the southeast regional state FFA land and homesite judging contests last Wednesday, Oct. 2. The contest was held in Yates Center with 100 contestants from 11 schools there to participate.
During the competition, students judge four soil pits using an evaluation card to make assessments on different parts of the land. The evaluation card is scored to determine the overall placements for the individuals and the team.
Brea Dawson, Landyn Samyn, and Jude Wade placed top 10 in land judging. Landyn Samyn, Jude Wade, and Kaylee Wisdom all placed top 10 in homesite judging. The homesite team placed first and the land teams placed second and third.
(Editor's note: In a land-judging contest for area schools last month at Mound City, the JLHS crew took a first place in land judging, with four top 10 individual finishers: Samyn in second, White in fourth, Wisdom in eighth, and Walton in 10th. At that meet JLHS took second in homesite judging with Samyn tied for first, White placing sixth, and Walton placing ninth.)
