Wade medals in strong field at Fort Scott tournament
FORT SCOTT – Prairie View sophomore Harley Wade shot a 13-over-par 85 on Tuesday, Sept. 10, to take second place in the Fort Scott golf tournament at Woodland Hills Golf Course. She ended the afternoon nine strokes behind leader Peyton Wright of Baldwin and seven strokes ahead of third-place finisher Violet Robins of Independence.
It was the first outing of the year for Wade, who earned a seventh-place medal for performance at the Class 3,2,1A tournament at Hesston last year as a freshman.
She was the only Prairie View competitor in the 32-player field at Fort Scott on Saturday. Par for the 6,136-yard course is 72.
Schneider resumes solid play in Columbus tourney
COLUMBUS – Jayhawk junior golfer Celeste Schneider shot an 8-over-par 44 to tie for second place in her first outing of the season. Schneider competed in the Columbus Varsity tournament on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Brush Creek Golf and Grill course.
Twenty-seven girls competed in the meet, which was held on the back nine holes of the course. Par for the back nine is 36.
Schneider was three strokes behind first-place golfer, sophomore Danielle Yaghmor of St. Mary’s-Colgan, and shared second place with two other St. Mary’s-Colgan golfers.
Schneider took home a 10th-place medal at the Class 3,2,1A girls golf tournament last year.
