Linn County Health Department Director Amanda Snyder told the Linn County commissioners on Monday, Oct. 7, that the health department has received the flu vaccine, and residents can make an appointment to get the vaccination. If people want to speed up the process, they can fill out the vaccine consent form before coming in.

The form can be found on the Linn County website under the health department, https://www.linncountyks.com/departments/health-department/vaccine-consent-form . Insurance information can also be added to that form.

Snyder said that flu immunization clinics would be held around the county. Emails will be going out this week about the clinic for the Linn County employees on Oct. 31.  She said that six other remote free clinics are scheduled this month at schools, Fabcon, and some of the county’s senior meal sites.

Snyder told the commissioners that the COVID vaccine was still on back order and cannot be purchased right now. At a previous commission meeting, she said that the vaccine would be $180 to $200 and would not be subsidized by the government like previous COVID vaccinations.

Snyder reported that the numbers  for September were high because health department staff had performed hearing and vision screenings for the students at the Jayhawk school district.

The number of people served for the month was 1,175, which also included women infant and children (WIC) services, immunizations, lab draws and other services.

Snyder said that the first satellite WIC clinic will be held at Blue Mound on Nov. 1. She said that if it was successful, the health department might expand this remote clinics to other communities that are further from the department’s home base in Pleasanton.

Snyder informed the commissioners that next week the breast feeding staff will be attending the Kansas Breastfeeding Conference in Wichita. This weekend the staff will be setting up a breast feeding and changing station in the 4H building at the Sugar Mound Arts and Crafts Festival.

Snyder reported to the commissioners that the presentation about avoiding drug overdose that was presented in each high school was a success. She said the presentation would count toward the county’s maternal and child health (MCH) grant and helps the county receive more funding when they apply for the next MCH grant.

Snyder told the commissioners that she had turned in health department staff evaluations to the county clerk last week and asked when they would like to complete her evaluation.

Commission Chair Danny McCullough said they would set a date later.
