MOUND CITY – Linn County Economic Development Director Jessica Hightower told the commissioners on Monday, Jan. 23 that she discovered through the grant that was received by the county to hire Darcy Wilson, housing champion, that the county is required to participate in a housing assessment study for the county.
Hightower informed the commissioners that the state had revamped their program and they are using the two counties that have housing champions as their guinea pigs to see if the new study is going to work and we are required to participate.
As part of that process, we have to establish a housing committee, said Hightower.
“I have taken the economic development bylaws and just tweaked them to fit a housing committee,” she said.
Hightower said that the committee would start out meeting every month, maybe bi-monthly, she said she was not sure what the housing assessment tool is going to require. As it goes on, it will probably go to quarterly because as the county gets further into the program it won’t be meeting as much.
Jessica Hightower said she had seven of the nine positions filled but she was waiting on call backs for the other two.
The commissioners passed a resolution forming the committee. Hightower will go ahead and schedule a meeting and come back with the complete list of members next week for approval.
